Trade-In: Use, Reuse and Save

IT equipment rental collaborates for reuse and proper disposal savings for various types of business

Everyone prefers new and updated equipment. The headache thinking about what to do with the old equipment. Current technology products have a high rate of obsolescence and loose value the moment they leave the supplier. Therefore, there are companies that offer a Trade In solution, or an IT equipment lease. This makes it easier to keep an updated and protected IT platform in place and helps reduce the cost of assets.

CSI Leasing provides this service and disposes of unused equipment in an environmentally-friendly manner. However, prior to disposal, they will try to resell equipment to smaller establishments that do not need state-of-art technology. CSI Leasing can even upgrade equipment according to the needs of the customer. “There is a big secondary market in Brazil, particularly among companies from the north and northeast,” says Ricardo Abdalla, Trade In manager of CSI.

According to Abdalla, CSI carefully sanitizes the data on all hard drives returned for resale. “If the product still has market value it undergoes a process that removes any identification that could lead to the old user,” he explains. CSI uses Blancco software that sanitizes data seven times, rendering it useless. Currently the best data recovery programs can reach the fourth layer of security, but none surpass the seven erasures.

CSI is also responsible for packing and removal of equipment that is sent to the Equipment Processing Center of Garantia Informática, a strategic alliance that processes equipment for later use. “We have a strong focus on promoting reuse since reusing is considered the most environmentally friendly and the lowest cost. However, if the equipment cannot be reused, we lead the environmentally-friendly disposal process,” says Abdalla.

Abdalla explained that, depending on the company that buys the service, the system can be adapted to their needs. With leasing, you pay the rent of the equipment and at the end of the contract, old equipment can be exchanged for new without having to worry about disposal. Rodrigo Luz, Vendor Program Manager of CSI Leasing, explains that this type of leasing is suitable for companies that do not want to expend capital by purchasing assets. The equipment does not count as an asset, which reduces the debt ratio and investment cost.

When a company leases with CSI, they have the right to use the new equipment for a specified period, typically 36 months. And at the end of this period, the customer may return it to the lessor, extend the term of the contract or lease new equipment. “This innovative business approach provides quick access to advanced equipment without the burdens of purchasing assets,” says Luz. “The goal of this service is to help companies be technologically up-to-date and ensure the operational availability, business productivity and competitiveness.”

It becomes increasingly important for companies to avoid losing resources in equipment that will soon be worth almost nothing. “If a company offers a product or service that has nothing to do with IT, it should not have to worry about technology equipment. We do this service for them,” adds Abdalla.

CSI also provides consulting services for technology management, covering the entire lifecycle, from project design to rollout to disposal.

“The cost of maintenance, upgrading, migration and management of IT equipment typically represent more than 50 percent of the IT budget. Managing IT infrastructure has become increasingly complex, requiring a solution capable of ensuring the quality of services, cost reduction and asset downtime,” explains Ricardo Abdalla.

CSI LifeCycle Management includes operating leases, rollout, reception, selection, storage of assets, specialized professionals to implement and integrate the solution or for the removal of obsolete equipment, and data sanitization.
